The Return of the Blogger

Salvé! (Formal greeting in Italian - particularly used by Romans).

It has been a while, hasn't it? Last time I posted I was enamored with a lovely piece of Q-Con appreciation art... this time I write two days after my 1st Q-Con XX nightmare (after catching sight of the new logo)!
Q-Con nightmares are a common thing for all those involved with running it - furries, gaffer tape  and J-pop are not a good mix!!!

So anyway - I have been out of the loop for the last couple of months. I was working in Italy for the most part, then I was on holiday in the USA for the last two weeks... so I need to get back in the mix.

I am really looking forward to the QUB Dragonslayers 30th Anniversary/Birthday bash. It is going to be a big night (as it coincides with the Freshers night) with even bigger prizes. Raffle central! Find more details via this link:

I see in my Blogger home page that I have left my first Infinity related post unfinished - I will get that up after a redraft and a couple of games next week. It seems there has been the release of a new race and a new campaign book in my absence - much to investigate!

So between now and then... what shall I write about? Who knows... I need to be creative.
I feel the need to write something about the author Iain M. Banks, and his Culture novels, at some stage. I am on the verge of finishing his third novel in this series, entitled Use of Weapons.

In case you haven't tried his work then please take my recommendation - the scope of his writing is mind boggling! Now is a good time to go pick up a copy of one of these novels as A Player of Games is on £2.99 in Waterstones. A better bargain you will not find!

Anyway, I will close for now - with the promise of a quick return within the next week!

Ciao for now!

'Touched' by a happy Q-Con attendee

Just to get things straight this involved no physical contact....none.

It did involve this though:

Pretty amazing to see this sort of thing go up the day after the 'Con finished.

Proud to be part of it all!

And if you are the fine soul who crafted this majestic banner then stand up and take a bow (i.e. get in touch)!

The First Among Equals

First blog post for me, to be honest... I don't quite know how this will work out.

Anyways... Hello and welcome to all!

So why am I doing this? Well honestly, I had an unreal weekend running Q-Con XIX, in Queen's University, Belfast. Seeing an unprecedented number of attendees (ca.2200) inspired me to take my hobbies and interests down a different route - since I seem to spend more time chatting to folk about 'Geek Stuff' then why not blog about it!

Don't run away just yet... I might actually get the hang of this blogging malark sooner than you think!

To kick this blog into action I'm going to start the 'Thought Train' and hopefully it shall pull me from one post to the next. The current station list is stacked up as follows:

  • 'Touched' by a happy Q-Con attendee (don't judge the title - it's late and you'll understand when you see the post)
  • X610Z Existenz: The Living Card and Boardgame
  • Song of Ice and Fire Roleplaying: A Game of Thrones Edition
  • Infinity - Will I ever paint my army?
  • Warhammer 40K 6th Edition - In the grim darkness of Nottingham, there is only 'snore'?
  • The HTC One X - awesomeness in a polycarbonate shell!

Well... that's a busy enough schedule to begin with! Hopefully I can carve something of a blog roll from these.

Until next time I shall leave you with a riddle:

Though the placement of product is rife
Along the steely edge I charge
The Nexus I seek is two by thrice
Tell me the film at large

Answers on a post card :)
